CBSE Physics Class 11 Question Paper

The Central Board of Secondary Education is authorized for prescribing syllabus and exam patterns for classes 9 to 12. Schools affiliated with CBSE must go per the question paper pattern specified by the board.

This article brings you a detailed insight into the CBSE Physics class 11 question paper. A proper understanding of the question paper pattern helps students prepare for their examination accordingly. They give a basic idea about which chapters have more importance and should be practised thoroughly. This approach assists them in preparing for class 12 adequately, too.

CBSE Physics class 11 Physics question paper is for 70 marks divided across various question types, each carrying a different weightage. Students can prepare well for their examinations by solving as many sample papers or previous year question papers.

The idea behind bringing this article is to help students know various types of questions for the examination and to offer all the resources that you require for your preparation in one place.

Question paper pattern of CBSE Class 11 Physics:

Question typeMarksQuestion number
Very short answers11 to 5
Short answers I2 6 to 10
Short answers II311 to 22
Questions based on Value423
Long answer524 to 26

CBSE class 11 Physics question paper consists of 26 questions in total. These questions get divided in the form of very short answers, short answers I, short answers II, value-based questions, and one long answer.

The first five(5) questions are very short answer questions and carry one(1) mark each. Question numbers 6 to 10 are short answers. I type questions that carry two(2) marks each. Short answers II start from question number 11 to 22 with the weightage of 3 marks each. Question number 23 is a value-based question carrying four(4) marks. Lastly, there are two long answer questions of 5 marks each.

The paper does not have any overall choice. However, an internal choice is provided in one, two(2) marks, and three(3) marks questions each. Internal choice also gets provided in all three questions of five marks each. Students can select the question they want to attempt.

CBSE class 11 Physics syllabus comprises ten(10) units totalling 15 chapters focussing on the core concepts of Physics such as Kinematics, Thermodynamics, Work, Energy, and Power.

The weightage of the entire theory syllabus makes up to 70 marks. Just like class 12, CBSE has also given different weightage to different chapters in class 11. Schools should design their question papers for class 11, keeping in mind the weightage assigned to each chapter by CBSE.

Unit I, II, and III make up for a total of 23 marks. Whereas units IV, V, VI are given a weightage of 17 marks in total. Lastly, twenty(20) marks get assigned to units VII, VIII, IX, and X. Their aggregate makes up the total weightage of class 11 Physics theory paper, i.e., 70 marks.

Approach to solve the paper of Class 11 CBSE Physics

How to solve multiple-choice questions/one-word answer questions?

Before looking at the answer alternatives, read the multiple-choice questions. After reading the question, you should think of the answer before looking for the options. It will help you avoid persuading yourself that your response is incorrect. Before selecting the answer, you believe is correct, eliminate any answer possibilities that you certainly know are 100% incorrect.

It is crucial to choose the best answer to the question, not just the one that appears accurate. If you have trouble answering a question, resolve it later once you have answered all the other questions you know.

How to solve short answers?

It is crucial to read each short answer questions instructions attentively. Describe, list, compare, contrast, identify, analyze, summarise, or a mix of these are common short response questions. Always reread the question once you have answered it. It is not unusual for a short answer question to get divided into several pieces.

While perspectives vary, most teachers believe that a short answer question necessitates a “short” response. That does not imply an answer that is devoid of in-depth analysis or facts. It simply refers to an answer, which is succinct and has just enough information.

How to solve value-based questions?

Value-based questions analyze the students’ understanding and capability. The idea behind prescribing value-based questions by the CBSE is to check the core values and key messages included in the specific content or topic. They deal with values like self-awareness, empathy, critical thinking, creative thinking, decision making, problem-solving, effective communication, interpersonal relationships, coping with stress and coping with anger, and dealing with emotions.

Students are required to carefully analyze the demand of the question and then frame an answer based on their understanding.

How to solve long answer questions?

CBSE provides internal choice in long answer questions. Read all the questions carefully and come down to the one that you feel most confident about. Long answer questions require you to answer them in their full depth, with facts and figures. You can break down your answer into numerous subheadings. Make sure the order of the subheadings seems appropriate. Then, begin writing your answer by elaborating on each of the subheadings.
