11. How would you demonstrate that green plants release oxygen when exposed to light?

Solution : experiment to show that oxygen is released when plants are exposed to light

  1. Take a beaker containing pond water and place few aquatic plants in it covered by stemmed funnel .
  2. A test tube full of water is inverted over the funnel
  3. The whole set is placed in the sun for few hours . After sometime we see bubbles of gas collecting in the test tube .
  4. Gas in the test tube is tested by a glowing splinter . The glowing splinter bursts into flame showing the presence of oxygen .
