Unit II: World of Living (50 Periods)

Life processes:

The chapters impart knowledge about “Living Being.” Other relevant topics include the theory of nutrition, respiration, and excretion in plants and animals, along with the labelled diagrams giving in-depth knowledge regarding the concept. 

Control and coordination in animals:

Concepts of nervous system, Voluntary and involuntary reflex action; Chemical coordination: animal hormones.

Reproduction:

This chapter talks about reproduction/mating in animals and plants (asexual and sexual). Methods of family planning, the importance of safe sex. Concept of HIV/AIDS and how it can be stopped. Childbearing and women’s health.

Heredity and Evolution:

Concept of Heredity. Know-how knowledge regarding Mendel’s contribution- Laws for inheritance of traits: introduction to Sex determination and basic concepts of evolution.

Unit V: Natural Resources (20 Periods)

Sources of energy:

Meaning and forms of energy including conventional and non-conventional sources of energy. Concepts of Fossil fuels, solar energy, biogas, wind, water, tidal energy, nuclear energy. Renewable versus non-renewable sources of Energy.

Our environment:

All about the ecosystem and the problems related to Environment. Ozone depletion and its causes, waste production, and their solutions. Theory of biodegradable and non-biodegradable substances.

Management of natural resources:

Importance and uses of natural resources. Theory-based knowledge of forest and wildlife; Coal and Petroleum conservation. Examples of people’s participation in the conservation of natural resources. Big dams and their advantages and limitations; alternatives, if any. Water harvesting. Sustainability of natural resources.
