Answer: A territory must have lost at least 70% of its original natural vegetation to be recognised as a biodiversity hotspot, which is mainly due to human activity.
The Himalayas, Western Ghats, Indo-Burma area, and Sundaland are four biodiversity hotspots in India (Includes Nicobar group of Islands). Numerous endemic species can be found in these regions.
