Explain the meaning of the terms e.m.f., terminal voltage and internal resistance of cell.

e.m.f. : The electromotive force, or e.m.f., is the potential difference between the terminals of a cell while it is in open circuit.

The potential difference between the electrodes of the cell is known as terminal voltage when the cell is in closed circuit.

Internal resistance: The internal resistance of the cell is the resistance provided by the electrolyte inside the cell to the passage of current.
