Give reasons for the following:
i) For electroplating with silver, silver nitrate is not used as an electrolyte.
j) Carbon tetrachloride is a liquid but does not conduct electricity.
Give reasons for the following:
i) For electroplating with silver, silver nitrate is not used as an electrolyte.
j) Carbon tetrachloride is a liquid but does not conduct electricity.

Solution:

i) In the electroplating of silver if silver nitrate is utilized, the silver deposition will be very rapid and will not be uniform and smooth.

j)

It should be noted that carbon tetrachloride is a covalent molecule and does not include any

free ions.

It solely contains molecules, nothing else. As a result, it does not contain any electrical current.
