CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) has over 2300 schools registered in India and abroad. It is also granted as a Non-Governmental Board of School Education by the constitution of India. It was formed on 3rd November 1958 with headquarters in New Delhi, India. ISC (Indian School Certificate) conducted by Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for class 12th. The subjects of examinations include English as a compulsory subject. Other electives contain Indian languages, Modern Foreign languages, Classical languages, History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Commerce, Accounts, Business Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Home Science, Fashion Designing, Engineering Science, Computer science, Mechanical Drawing, Art, Music, Physical Education, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, etc. ISC Class 11 Math subject is an important asset to build a base level understanding to perform computational calculations in engineering ahead and for cracking competitive exams like JEE. The subject consists of main topics pre-defined from the curriculum and changes in exam pattern, which will make students aware of the syllabus beforehand for the academic year 2021-2022. We will also go through the evaluation pattern and marks weightage information.

Important Chapters with Highest Weightage for Class 11 Maths

1.     Sets- An unchallenging chapter, and the question of this chapter comes in combination with the questions of every other chapter. However, this chapter is not difficult, and just an outline is required.

2.     Functions – It’s a profitable chapter to be done with limited concepts comprising 7 to 8 marks.

3.     Trigonometry – It is a vast chapter consisting of 10 to 12 marks. Studying the basics will do, completing the first two or three exercises of your textbook, and you will score approximately six marks, and it will be beneficial in other chapters as well.

4.     PMI – I have seen only 6 questions in this chapter following the same approach, and a question worth 6 marks can come from this chapter. So, you should acquire knowledge of this chapter.

5.     Complex Number – Like the name, it is very complex and substantial. This chapter is economical.

6.     Quadratic Equation – It is a trouble-free chapter. Many concepts are of lower classes from ICSE, so this chapter is crisp.

7.     Permutations and Combinations – This is my personal favorite as it is very absorbing, but I don’t think it is one of the essential chapters from your perspective.

8.     Binomial Theorem – Doable.

9.     Sequence and Series – Just memorize the basic formula, and you will be able to answer all the questions appearing in the exam.

10.  Straight lines and circles – This chapter contains too many questions and formulas and is very time-consuming. We suggest going through the first few concepts of both chapters, and nobody can take away 80 percent of your marks from this section.

11.  Limits and derivatives – 8 marks of a single chapter, so this chapter should be completed.

12.  Statistics and probability- This chapter should be done at any cost because it’s straightforward and worth 8 marks, so you must go through it.

13.  Section B / Section C – Section C is much easier than Section B, but if you are good at remembering formulas, Section B is the best. It contains 4 marks for free (Mathematical Reasoning), Conics which don’t have any concept (in a schoolbook, not talking about IIT-JEE), and 3D geometry, which is just an extension of the 2D geometry we learned in Class 9th and 10th.

FAQs of ICSE Maths Class 11

1. How does one score good marks in class 11 ISC mathematics by self-study?

When you come from 10th std to 11th std, you will notice a lot of changes. Solving questions from chapters like Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, Statistics, which seemed to be a piece of cake in 10th grade, will now seem like climbing the mountain. It’s all about strategy. Self-study is the only way to succeed and to score good marks in this subject. For ISC, choose one or two books, preferably by ML Aggarwal or S Chand, and in the meantime also solve the NCERT Exemplar question. They are enough to make you understand the concept of the chapter and the different types of questions asked. Attend classes to know how to solve problems stepwise because ISC is not JEE Mains, here steps and presentation matter.

2. What are the crucial topics in JEE from Class 11 Maths?

The essential mathematics topics from class 11th in JEE main are Coordinate Geometry, Permutations and Combinations, Probability, Complex Numbers, Binomial Theorem, and Progressions.

3. Which school board is better for IIT JEE preparation?

The in-depth learning in the ICSE board allows students to excel in any field. But for classes 11 and 12, students would like to prefer CBSE over ICSE. The simple logic is that the CBSE syllabus in classes 11th and 12th provides a healthy environment for students to prepare for competitive examinations like IIT-JEE and NEET.

4. How to get 100 marks in ISC maths?

Book: M.L.Aggarwal (It’s enough for boards). The paper consisted of problems mainly from examples. Practice as many examples as you can. These problems match during the actual exam. ISC follows a particular question paper pattern. Practice previous years’ papers and note how many marks questions contain from each chapter. Smart work is very important. If you are weak in any chapter, understand its basics to attempt its question in the compulsory section. Write your terminal exams seriously. Complete your syllabus before winter vacations and solve previous years’ papers in this vacation. Try to score well in pre-boards, and this will boost your confidence. After pre boards, revise again. Change your mindset on the exam day, don’t go with the thought of scoring 100 and panic. Be focused and have in mind that you know everything and you will give your best. During the exam, attempt additional questions if you are left with some time.

5. What is the best math book for ISC class 11?

Books to refer for math in class 11th ISC:

        a) S Chand Part 1 Mathematics

        b) ML Agarwal (vol 1 and vol 2)
