The length of rectangle is twice its breadth and its areas is 288 \mathrm{~cm} 288 \mathrm{~cm}^{2}. Find the dimension of the rectangle.

Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be 2 x \mathrm{~m} and x \mathrm{~m}, respectively.

According to the question:

\begin{array}{l} 2 x \times x=288 \\ \Rightarrow 2 x^{2}=288 \\ \Rightarrow x^{2}=144 \\ \Rightarrow x=12 \text { or } x=-12 \\ \Rightarrow x=12 \quad(\because x \text { cannot be negative) } \\ \therefore \text { Length }=2 \times 12=24 m \\ \text { Breath }=12 m \end{array}
