Unit–I Physical World and Measurement

The unit deals with the fundamental behavior laws of physics, why study physics, technology, society, the scope in physics, and the excitement. Measuring units and understanding the dimension of physical quantities, analysis; measurements of length, mass, time; errors in measurements.

Unit-II Kinematics

This unit explains theories like speed, velocity, uniform motion, non-uniform motion; describing motion using integration and differentiation, instantaneous velocity, average speed, uniformly accelerated motion; graphs for position-time and velocity-time. 

This unit also includes concepts related to motion in a plane like scalar quantities, vector quantities, properties of vectors, multiplying vectors by real numbers, uniform circular motion, events of uniform velocity, uniform acceleration projectile motion.

Unit–III Laws of Motion

This unit describes and explains Newtons’s first, second, the third law of motion, inertia, the law of conservation of linear momentum, impulse, centripetal force, equilibrium of concurrent forces, Etc. 

Unit–IV Work, Energy and Power

This unit explains concepts like work done, kinetic energy, work done by a constant force, variable force, potential energy, work-energy theorem, conservative force, non-conservative force, conservation of mechanical energy, elastic, non-elastic collision in one or two dimensions, potential energy for spring. 

Unit–V Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body 

Centre of mass, momentum conservation. Moment of a force, torque, angular momentum, law of conservation of angular momentum and its applications. Equilibrium, Moment of inertia, the radius of gyration, values of moments of inertia for simple geometrical objects. Statement of parallel and perpendicular axes theorems and their applications, Etc

Unit-VI Gravitation

Acceleration due to gravity and its variation; the universal law of gravitation, Gravitational potential energy, Geostationary satellites, orbital and escape velocity, Acceleration due to gravity and its variation, Kepler’s laws of planetary motion Etc.

Unit–VII Properties of Bulk Matter

Poisson’s ratio, bulk modulus, Young’s modulus, shear modulus of rigidity, Stress-strain relationship, Elastic behavior, Hooke’s law, Surface energy and tension, application of surface tension, excess of pressure across a curved surface. Viscosity, terminal and critical velocity, Bernoulli’s theorem and its applications, Stokes’ law, Pascal’s law, and its applications, effect of gravity, Heat, temperature, Cp, Cv – calorimetry, change of state – latent heat capacity, specific heat capacity, Heat transfer-conduction, thermal expansion, convection and radiation, thermal conductivity, Stefan’s law, Greenhouse effect, Blackbody radiation, Wein’s displacement law.

Unit–VIII Thermodynamics

The first law of thermodynamics, Heat engine and refrigerator, zeroth law of thermodynamics, isothermal and adiabatic processes, heat, work, and internal energy, the second law of thermodynamics

Unit–IX Behaviour of Perfect Gases and Kinetic Theory of Gases 

Kinetic interpretation of temperature, Avogadro’s number, degrees of freedom, Kinetic theory of gases, the law of equipartition of energy, RMS speed of gas molecules.

Unit–X Oscillations and Waves 

Restoring force, force constant, Harmonic motion like periodic and simple, Free oscillations, forced oscillations, damped oscillations, deriving an expression for a simple pendulum, resonance.
