A boy weighing 350 N climbs up 30 steps, each 20 cm high in 1 minute. Calculate:

(i) the work done, and

(ii) the power spent.

Solutions –

According to the question, mass of the boy is 350N and displacement is total distance covered in 30 steps, which is –

S = 30 × 20 cm= 600 cm

S = 6 m

So, the Work done by the boy in climbing becomes

Work = Force × distance moved in direction of force = 350 × 6

Work = 2100 J

Expression for Power developed is

= work done / time taken = 2100 J / 60 s

Work = 35 W
