Briefly mention the mechanism of action of FSH.

The follicle stimulating hormone or FSH is a glycoprotein polypeptide hormone that does not dissolve in lipid and therefore cannot enter the target cell. It binds to the surface of the cell and activates cells to perform their function.

The Mechanism of FSH:

1. The FSH molecule binds to a receptor protein found on the surface of a cell that forms a hormone-receptor complex.

2. Hormone formation causes the receptor complex to activate the adenyl cyclase enzyme.

3. This enzyme converts ATP into circulating AMP that stimulates follicular cells of the granulose membrane to produce estrogens.
