A weight lifter lifted a load of 200 kgf to a height of 2.5 m in 5 s. Calculate:

(i) the work is done, and

(ii) the power developed by him. Take g =10N/kg-1.

Solutions:

According to the question, mass is 200kgf and the displacement is 2.5m. Total time taken is 5 seconds. So, we know that –

Force = mg = 200 × 10

= 2000 N

(i) Expression for work done is –

W = FS = 2000 × 2.5 m

Therefore, W = 5000 J

(ii) Power developed by the lifter = (work done) / (time taken)

Power = 5000 J / 5 s = 1000 W
