Explain why passengers are thrown forward from their seats when a speeding bus stops suddenly,

Because of the inertia of motion. When a bus abruptly stops, the bottom half of a person’s body in touch with the seat comes to a halt, while the upper part of the body continues to move. As a result, the top half of the person’s body is pushed forward in the direction of the bus’s travel.
