Prove by direct method that for any real numbers x, y if x = y, then x2 = y2.

Solution:

It is given that for any real number x, y if x=y

We now need to find x^{2} = y^{2}

Let’s suppose

p: x=y in which x and y are real no.

Squaring both the sides

x^{2} = y^{2} : q (Assumption)

Hence, p = q

As a result, hence proved.
