Question 12.16: Describe Acetylation.

Acetylation is the process of adding an acetyl function group to a chemical molecule. When this process is carried out, bases such as pyridine, dimethylaniline, and others are present. In this process, an acetyl group is replaced with an active hydrogen atom. Acetylating substances like acetyl chloride and acetic anhydride are routinely utilised.

Ethyl acetate is produced when ethanol is acetylated.
