Draw a line segment of length 7 cm. Find a point P on it which divides it in the ratio 3:5.

NCERT Exemplar Class 10 Maths Chapter 10 Ex. 10.3 Question-1Steps of construction:

  1. Define a boundary fragment,

        \[AB\text{ }=\text{ }7\text{ }cm.\]

  2. Draw a beam,

        \[AX\]

    , making an intense point down ward with

        \[AB.\]

  3. Imprint the focuses

        \[{{A}_{1}},\text{ }{{A}_{2}},\text{ }{{A}_{3~}}\ldots \text{ }{{A}_{8}}\]

  4. Imprint the focuses to such an extent that

        \[A{{A}_{1}}~=\text{ }{{A}_{1}}{{A}_{2}}~=\text{ }{{A}_{2}}{{A}_{3}}~=\text{ }\ldots ..,\text{ }{{A}_{7}}{{A}_{8}}.\]

  5. Join

        \[B{{A}_{8}}.\]

  6. Define a boundary corresponding to

        \[B{{A}_{8}}.\]

    through the point

        \[{{A}_{3}}\]

    , to meet

        \[AB\text{ }on\text{ }P.\]

 

Henceforth

    \[AP:\text{ }PB\text{ }=\text{ }3:\text{ }5\]
