Phloem, a vascular bundle, is in charge of transporting food from the source to the sink. During seasons like spring, however, the process is reversed since the food that has been stored in the sink is subsequently delivered to the plant’s growing sections. As a result of the changing source and sink relationship, the direction of food transport through the phloem can be either upwards or downwards, i.e. bidirectional.
