Solution: Although wild variants of domesticated plants have a low yield, they are disease and insect-resistant. They have various resistant characters (genes) that can be introduced in other high-yielding plants, so it’s critical to maintain the wild relatives of cultivated plants.

Hence, it’s essential to preserve not only the seeds of the cultivated variety but also all of its wild relatives.
