What are nucleic acids? Mention their two important functions.
What are nucleic acids? Mention their two important functions.

It is a molecule that is found in the nucleus of all live cells and is one of the constituents of chromosomes.

There are two types of nucleic acid: ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) (DNA).

Polynucleotides are long-chain polymers of nucleotides, while nucleic acids are long-chain polymers of nucleotides.

Two functions of nucleic acids are:-

(i) It is in charge of heredity. There is a transmission of innate characters from one generation to the next in heredity. The DNA is in charge of this process.

(ii) Nucleic acid regulates protein synthesis in cells (both RNA and DNA). The numerous RNA molecules in a cell do the majority of the protein synthesis, while DNA contains the message for the synthesis.
