The C.G.S unit of work is erg and S.I unit of work is Joule.

We know that the relation between joule and erg is given by the expression –

1N × 1m = 1 joule

Also,

1 N = 10⁵ dyne

1 m = 10² cm

Therefore, we have –

1 joule = 10⁵ dyne × 10² cm

= 10⁷ dyne × cm = 10⁷ erg
