What is an electric motor? State its principle.

Solution:

A device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy is known as an electric motor. Almost every mechanical action we witness in our environment is powered by an electric motor. Electric machines are a type of energy converter.

Principle :

An electric motor (dc motor) operates on the idea that when an electric current is conducted through a conductor positioned ordinarily in a magnetic field, a force is applied to the conductor, causing the conductor to move and hence mechanical energy to be generated.
