The net positive charge acting on an electron in an atom’s orbital with more than one electron is known as the nuclear charge. The distance between the orbital and the nucleus is inversely proportional to it.

(i)Because electrons in the 2s orbital are closer to the nucleus than electrons in the 3s orbital, they will have a higher nuclear charge.

(ii)Because the 4d orbital is closer to the nucleus than the 4f orbital, it will have a higher nuclear charge.

(iii)3p will have a higher nuclear charge (since it is closer to the nucleus than the 3f orbital).
