State whether the following statements are true or false. Justify your answer. Point P (– 4, 2) lies on the line segment joining the points A (– 4, 6) and B (– 4, – 6).

Solution:

The statement given in the question is true.

Justification:

Equation of the line conatining the points A and B using the two-point form is,

\frac{y-6}{x+4}=\frac{-6-6}{-4+4}
(y-6)0=-12(x+4)
x+4=0

We can see that on putting the coordinates of P in the above equation, we get zero.

Hence, we proved that the point P lies on the line AB
