3. The following picture depicts a certain phenomenon.

(i) Name the phenomenon and explain it.

(ii) Enlist the sources that are responsible for the above mentioned phenomenon.

(iii) List out the effects of the above phenomenon on humans.

Solution:-

(i) The phenomenon is the Ozone Layer Depletion.

CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), which are released from refrigerators, aerosol sprayers, and the packing material Styrofoam, rise into the sky. They decompose into chlorine atoms, which then decompose ozone (O₃) into oxygen (O₂) and oxygen (O₃).

(ii) CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) emitted from refrigerators, aerosol sprayers, and packing material Styrofoam, among other sources, rise into the atmosphere and cause the aforementioned phenomenon.

(iii)

(1) Cholera, jaundice, and typhoid are just a few of the diseases that can be caused by contaminated water.
