Unsaturated hydrocarbons contain multiple bonds between the two C-atoms and show addition reactions. Give the test to distinguish ethane from ethene.

The saturated hydrocarbons burn with a pure flame and do not produce soot while non-saturated hydrocarbons burn yellow flames and produce more soot. Ethane is saturated with hydrocarbon and heats with a clean flame with no soot whereas Ethene is dehydrated and therefore burns with a yellow flame producing more soot.
