(a) Electrolytic reduction is the method used to extract the aluminium metal. Electrolysis is used to obtain aluminium. The Bayer Process converts the ore into pure aluminium oxide, which is subsequently electrolyzed in solution in molten cryolite, another aluminium compound. The melting point of aluminium oxide is too high for it to electrolyze on its own. Bauxite is the most common aluminium ore.
