The vena cava transports deoxygenated blood from several organs to the right atrium.
• Blood flows from the right atrium to the right ventricle. The tricuspid valve, which connects the right atrium and right ventricle, stops blood from flowing backward.
• The pulmonary artery transports blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. Carbon dioxide is eliminated from the blood inside the lungs, and oxygen is introduced.
• The pulmonary vein transports blood from the lungs to the left atrium.
• From the left atrium, blood goes to the left ventricle.
• From the left ventricle, blood is pumped into the aorta so that it can be supplied to different organs.
