Rajasthan Board Class 11 Chemistry Syllabus
Rajasthan Board Class 11 Chemistry Syllabus

Jharkhand Board (the Jharkhand Academic Council) has prepared a comprehensive syllabus for Class 11 Chemistry for the board exam of 2021-22. It is a must that students study and analyze the syllabus before they start studying the subject. Moreover, a sound understanding, knowledge, and application of chapters and concepts given in Class 11 is important for further studies. Therefore, in this article, we will take a detailed look at the Jharkhand Board Class 11 Chemistry syllabus to better understand what all chapters are to be covered.

Chemistry is one of the most interesting yet challenging subjects in Class 11. The entire subject of 100 marks is divided into two papers — theory paper of 70 marks and practical of 30 marks. Basics of the subject studied in previous classes will help the students in building a strong base and understanding of the chapters in Class 11. Given below is the chapter and unit-wise distribution of the subject along with respective marks.

Theory Syllabus of JAC Board Class 11 Chemistry

1 – Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry
2 – Structure of Atom
3 – Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties
4 – Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure
5 – States of Matter
6 – Thermodynamics
7 – Equilibrium
8 – Redox Reactions
9 – Hydrogen
10 – The s-block Elements
11 – The p-Block Elements
12 – Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques
13 – Hydrocarbons
14 – Environmental Chemistry

Summary of Class 11 Chemistry Theory Syllabus

In the first chapter, a general introduction of the subject has been provided along with some important concepts such as historical approach to study the nature of matter. Moreover, the states, classification, and properties of matter has been elaborated. The second chapter is ‘Structure of Atom’, which is a significant chapter as the story behind the discovery of electron, proton, and neutron has been discussed here. Students need to make note of these two chapters as they carry a considerable amount of marks in the JAC Board exam and the principles taught here will be useful in the practical exams as well.

The next unit of chapters that are extremely crucial are chapters 5, 6, and 7. In the chapter States of Matter, important laws such as Charles law, Boyle’s law, and Gay Lussac’s law have been given in detail. Furthermore, this chapter consists of notable principles and laws relating to gases and liquids ranging from melting points, boiling points, types of molecular bonding, and intermolecular interactions, etc.

A few other important chapters are:

The chapter Thermodynamics consists of the three laws of thermodynamics and concepts like calorimetry, enthalpies of bond dissociation, combustion, formation, atomization, sublimation, phase transition, ionization, solution and dilution.

Chapter 7 i.e. Equilibrium talks about equilibrium in physical and chemical processes, equilibrium constant, dynamic nature of equilibrium, law of mass action, factors affecting equilibrium, etc. Students are advised to study these three chapters with special focus as the questions from these units in JAC Board Chemistry theory paper are increasing over the past few years. This trend is likely to continue in the upcoming board exams as well.

Moving on to the next set of important units, chapters 10 and 11 are of great significance. Chapter 10 The S-Block Elements consists of a general introduction of Group 1 and Group 2 elements along with their anomalous properties of the first element of each group, electronic configuration, occurrence, trends in the variation of properties, etc. Moreover, this chapter also deals with the biological importance of sodium and potassium, calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, industrial uses of lime and lime stone, biological importance of Mg and Ca.

Similarly, chapter 11 The P-Block Elements provides a general introduction of the Group 13 and 14 elements along with their electronic configuration, anomalous properties of first element of the group, trends in chemical reactivity, oxidation states, variation of properties, etc.

The last chapter which is quite important to study is the unit 12 Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques. In this chapter, the methods of purification of organic compounds, qualitative and quantitative analysis of organic compounds have been discussed. Moreover, this chapter also talks about the concepts such as stoichiometry and calculations based on stoichiometry, the atomic and molecular masses, mole concept and molar mass, and the importance and scope of Chemistry as an academic discipline.

Practical Syllabus of JAC Board Chemistry Class 11

The practical part of the JAC Board Chemistry Class 11 syllabus 2021-22 consists of practical experiments, project work, class records, and viva. The student is awarded marks on a holistic basis.

–> Project Work:

Projects have to cover scientific investigations that involve proper laboratory testing and proper collection of information from secondary sources. Any topic may be chosen with the teacher’s approval, considering all the aspects of syllabus and time required to complete the same. We are providing a few project topics below which students can choose from:

  • Analysis of fruit and vegetable juices for their acidity.

  • Study of the effect of acids and bases on the tensile strength of fibers.

  • Determination of the rate of evaporation of different liquids.

  • Study of the acidity of different samples of the tea leaves.

  • Investigation of the foaming capacity of different washing soaps and the effect of the addition of sodium carbonate on them.

  • Testing the hardness, presence of iron, fluoride, chloride, etc. depending upon the regional variation in drinking water and the study of causes of the presence of these ions above the permissible limit (if any)

  • Checking the bacterial contamination in drinking water by testing the sulfide ions.

  • Study of the methods of purification of water.

Summary of Practical Syllabus Class 11 Chemistry

The total marks allotted for the JAC Board Class 11 Chemistry are 30 marks. These marks are distributed amongst the project work, viva, class attendance and maintenance of experiments file.
