What is the role of benzoyl peroxide also polymerisation of alkenes? Explain its mode of action with the help of an example.

By providing chain initiation, benzoyl peroxide functions as an initiator in free radical addition polymerisation of alkenes.
The generated radical reacts with the carbon-carbon double bond of an alkene molecule to produce a polymer.
The new free radical combines with a monomer’s double bond to produce a bigger free radical, which then combines with another alkene molecule to form the polymer.
