ICSE Class 10 Biology Syllabus

The syllabus of ICSE Class 10 Biology contains the units and essential topics of the chapters. This will help students build a strong understanding for their academic year 2021-22. Practical-based learning and theory-based learning are both crucial for the students. The updated syllabus for Class 10 Biology is as follows:

Basic BiologyCell cycle and division Structure of chromosome Genetics: Mendel’s laws of inheritance and sex-linked inheritance of diseases
Plant PhysiologyConcept of plant roots Study of xylem Photosynthesis process
Human Anatomy and PhysiologyCirculatory system Excretory system Nervous system Endocrine system The reproductive system Population
Physical Health and HygieneAids to health Health organizations
PollutionTypes of pollution Sources of pollution and major pollutant Effects of pollution on climate, environment, human health, and other organisms

The above shows the units and chapters of Class 10 Biology, ICSE Board. There are a total of five units in biology, and each unit consists of various topics. The first unit “Basic Biology” explains the overview of biology, cell cycle and division, chromosome structures, and genetics – Mendel’s law of inheritance and sex-linked inheritance of diseases. Unit II includes the details of plant physiology. It explains the root concept, absorption by roots, imbibition, diffusion and osmosis process, etc. It also includes characteristics of roots, xylem concept, transpiration process, its significance, mechanism of stomatal transpiration, photosynthesis process, and structure of chloroplast.

The unit “Human Anatomy and Physiology” includes the topics like the circulatory system, its features, structure, working, the composition of blood, excretory system, external and internal structure of the kidney, fertilization, implantation, nervous system, the structure of a neuron, sense organs, endocrine system, reproductive system, organs, population, its effect, and causes. The next unit contains details like aids to health and health organizations. It includes topics such as vaccination, immunization, penicillin, antitoxin, organizations like Red Cross, WHO, and common health problems in India. The last unit “Pollution” explains the different types of pollution like air, water, soil, radiation, and noise pollution. It also includes the effects of pollution on climate, environment, human health, and other organisms.

Some of the important topics of Biology Class 10 include the reproductive system, pollution, chemical coordination in plants, nervous systems, photosynthesis, endocrine glands, and genetics. These topics are said to hold a significant weightage out of other topics.
